Import notes for Barbados

Before you buy

  • Used and reconditioned cars need an import licence from the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs, applied for through the ASYCUDA World portal.
  • To qualify for the licence, a used car must be no more than 4 years old and have no more than 50,000 km on the odometer (Miscellaneous Controls Act, Cap. 329). Please confirm the current criteria with the Department before you choose a car.

After arrival

  • Every imported vehicle, new or used, must be registered with the Barbados Licensing Authority.
  • Import duty, excise, VAT and an environmental levy apply. Ask your customs broker for the full cost of the exact car before you accept a quotation.

Documents to keep

  • The official invoice from BE FORWARD, the bill of lading and the export certificate.
