Before you buy

The Trade Board sets age limits for imported vehicles. Motor cars, SUVs and station wagons (up to 8 seats) may be up to 6 years old. Pickups up to 1,500 kg: 6 years. Panel vans, window vans and pickups of 1,501 to 3,000 kg: 10 years.
You need an import permit for a used vehicle, applied for online through the JSWIFT portal (jswift.gov.jm). The permit must be issued before the car arrives in Jamaica.
Used vehicles from Japan need a Pre-Shipment Inspection (PSI) certificate.

At the port

Clearance must be done by a licensed customs broker.
Import duty and taxes are calculated by Jamaica Customs. Ask your broker for the full cost of the exact car before you accept a quotation.

The official invoice from BE FORWARD, the bill of lading, the export certificate and the PSI certificate.
