Japanese used cars for Trinidad and Tobago

Before you buy

• You need an import licence for a used car before it is shipped. Apply online through TTBizLink (ttbizlink.gov.tt) with your ID and the signed *Declaration for Licence to Import Used RHD Motor Vehicle*.
• Age limit, from the year of manufacture: petrol, diesel and CNG up to 8 years, hybrid up to 3 years, electric up to 2 years.
• A person may import only one used vehicle every four years, and it can't be sold during that time.
• The Ministry advises applying yourself, not through a third party, to avoid fraud.

Documents the car needs

• The Certificate of Cancellation of Registration from Japan (with the engine and chassis numbers) and proof of the year of manufacture.
• The air conditioning must use an ozone-friendly refrigerant.

After arrival

• The car is inspected by the Transport Commissioner for road-worthiness before registration.
• Ask your customs broker for the full cost (duty, taxes and fees) of the exact car before you accept a quotation.

Documents to keep

• The official invoice from BE FORWARD, the bill of lading, the export certificate and the import licence.
